Research Director Prof. Chris Knapp
Professor Chris Knapp is an experienced leader, educator, design practitioner, researcher and maker.
Professor Knapp’s role as Research Director at Building 4.0 CRC is following on from serving as Head of School at Bond University, where he helped establish the Abedian School of Architecture from 2011. Dr Knapp has contributed significantly to architectural education in Australia through teaching and leadership at Bond; as founding Chair of Architecture and Professor at Western Sydney University (2017-19); and as an executive committee member of the Association of Architecture Schools of Australasia (2014-2020).
Dr Knapp’s research expertise is in the application of digital fabrication and digital design tools toward transforming the relationship between design and construction. He holds a practice-based PhD from the School of Architecture and Urban Design at RMIT, a Master of Architecture from Princeton University, and a BS in Architecture from the University of Michigan.
Since 2015, Chris has co-directed Studio Workshop, a practice in Southeast Queensland creating innovative spatial and technical approaches to building-making through digitally-assisted means. His research, teaching, and practice work have been published widely and received national and international recognition.
