QUT Design Lab: Emerging Technologies Program

The Emerging Technology program creates new experiences and investigates the prototyping, design and evaluation of extended reality in areas such as visual simulation, distributed collaboration and interactive visualisation. With expertise in collaborative work, data visualisation, the built environment, advanced manufacturing, user experience and participatory design, their research creates new ways to see, sense and shape the world. Their interdisciplinary team of researchers combines expertise in Architecture, Construction and Engineering with approaches and tools from Interaction, Industrial Design and Visual Communication.

Facilities: The Design Lab has access to a wide range of specialist facilities across QUT for prototyping and development, including: the ViseR visualisation lab, an advanced visualisation facility with specialist programmers, modellers and designers to deliver digital projects and interactive visualisations; and, the Design Fabrication Workshop, an extensive makerspace for physical and digital prototyping. QUT and the Design Lab are closely aligned with the ARM Hub, a network of research institutions and companies, to promote advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0 readiness.
