QUT Centre for Materials Science
The Centre for Materials Science is QUT’s fundamental scientific engine room for materials innovation, providing materials-based solutions for real-world applications. Its researchers have core expertise in polymer and organic chemistry, inorganic, nanoscale 1D and 2D materials, materials characterisation, molecular and materials modelling, and are developing: polymers and polymeric coatings, adhesives, ultralight/superstrong structural materials, composites, batteries/supercapacitors, solar cells, antifouling/antibacterial materials, and sensors.
Facilities: The Centre’s researchers utilise cutting-edge instrumentation and world-class technical expertise within their Central Analytical Research Facility to observe chemical changes in materials at the molecular level including: state-of-the-art mass spectrometry platforms, nuclear magnetic resonance and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, In situ and operando microscopic techniques, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, infrared and raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffractometry.
