Sumit Saha

Sumit is undertaking his PhD at the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on structural health monitoring (SHM) of building structures using digital twin frameworks. SHM needs cutting-edge technologies to predict structural failure during extreme events. He aims to model a graphics-based digital twin (GBDT) framework that comprises a finite element model and a computer graphics model; the digital counterparts will be continuously updated using sensor data and real images.

Sumit has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil and Construction Engineering from Jadavpur University, and a Master’s in Structural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad. His dedication was rewarded with the prestigious DAAD scholarship, providing a valuable opportunity to collaborate with esteemed German partners and enrich his academic experience.

He also worked as a structural engineer at Simplex Infrastructure Private Limited and as a design engineer at Mageba Bridge Products Private Limited and SS Consultancy, where he confronted challenges that deepened his commitment to the field.
