Loops, Lattices, Systems: Circular Economy for the Building Industry

On May 25th we had a series of presentations and discussion on the implications of Circular Economy for the Building Industry, at Monash College in Docklands, Melbourne.

Radical changes in the way we design, procure, operate, and maintain the fabric of our cities will be necessary to transition to the Circular Economy paradigm. What are the technical, material, financial and cultural implications for the various sectors of the building industry? What are the quick wins, and the significant challenges, facing industry actors wishing to lead in this space? This public seminar will feature key exemplars and practices of this emerging paradigm shift ranging from urban systems to technical detail.

Presented by Building 4.0 CRC’s new Research Director Professor Chris Knapp, panellists included:

  • Anne Beim, Professor of Architectural Technology from The Royal Danish Academy, Architecture, Design & Conservation
  • Karl-Heinz Weiss, Head of R&D, Lendlease Digital
  • Usha Iyer-Raniga, Professor in the School of Property and Construction Management, RMIT
  • Robert Crawford, Professor Construction & Environmental Assessment Architecture, Building and Planning, University of Melbourne
  • Peter Graham, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture Monash University
