‘Click-together’ homes delivered by truck
A growing number of Australians are choosing prefabricated and modular homes – where part or all of the structure is constructed offsite and then transported to the site. It can involve smaller structures (e.g. walls and beams), larger modules (e.g. bathroom pods) or entire buildings (e.g. a tiny house).
Once seen as cheap and unoriginal, a new generation of builders is now producing elegant designs at a speed and cost that make prefabricated homes very attractive.
Our CEO, Prof. Mathew Aitchison, discusses the opportunities and challenges of prefabricated and modular housing in Australia in an article for SBS News.
“We need to unleash the full force of manufacturing knowledge, manufacturing capability into the housing market,” he said.
