Karen Tanfield
Karen is a practicing architect with over 20 years of experience in Melbourne, working on all aspects of architectural projects from large high-rise apartments to small residential alterations, and specialising in contract documentation using 3D modelling/BIM.
Prior to working in architecture, Karen worked in real estate. As a recent owner of strata property, Karen noticed an opportunity to integrate her experience and passions – 3D modelling/BIM and contract documentation – in the management of repairs and maintenance in this sector. She currently advises Owners Corporation owners and managers on significant or complex building repairs and maintenance issues.
Karen’s research looks to investigate the digital management of repairs and maintenance in medium-rise and high-rise apartment developments, an important and significant sector of our residential building stock.
Karen has tutored in architecture and construction at leading Universities and is regularly invited to be a guest critic of student work. She is also an active volunteer having recently held the position of treasurer of a local CWA and Chair of her Owners Corporation. Other interests include music, science fiction, bush/beach walking, the state of our oceans, and the health and safety of women.
