Fire Safety Dr Angela Solarte Castaneda

Angela is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Future Building Initiative at Monash University, and lecturing the unit Project Management for Civil Engineers. She previously worked in the construction industry as a project manager where her close interaction with fire-related experiences sparked in her the desire to engage in fire safety research at The University of Queensland, where she obtained her PhD.

Her current research focuses on the fire performance of sustainable construction materials such as engineering timber and bamboo products. She has been involved in projects that aim to understand the fire behaviour of systems like facades made of ACP, PIR foams and wooden fibre products, among others. She has also contributed to investigate the self-extinguishment mechanisms of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) in full-scale compartments. Angela strongly believes in the importance of interconnecting industry and research by creating knowledge that will enable the development of sustainable fire-safe buildings.
